I have just visited a small exhibition which explores what it means to be European. It’s quite a pertinent topic for us Brits right now. I loved this photography/projection piece by Michal Iwanowski called “Clear of People”. In it, he retraces the steps his grandfather and great uncle took as they escaped from a gulag in Russia in 1945. About it, Michal says “As more and more people are on the move, uprooting their lives and fleeing from conflict zones across the European continent, this body of work pays a silent tribute to our ancestors and to present fugitves on their quest for safety”.
